Looking Inside the Human Body Using Radioactive Atoms

چکیده
Positron emission tomography (PET) is a method for taking pictures of disease inside sick person’s body, without having to cut them open. In PET imaging, radioactive chemical called radiotracer injected into patient. All radiotracers have two main parts: part that targets the disease, and an unstable atom (radioisotope) emits positive electrons (positrons) as it breaks down (decays). When positron crashes electron, both are destroyed, particles light emerge. Doctors can detect these signals use create 3D image where tracer (and disease) in body. This article describes radioisotopes greater detail. We focus on fluorine-18, radioisotope makes up “signaling part” many important radiotracers.

متن کاملLooking Inside the Disordered Brain
For decades, research on human psychopathology has focused on understanding specific mental disorders, based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a rigid classification system that assumes each disorder is distinct and relatively homogenous. Research has demonstrated, however, that many disorders share common etiological factors, including those of a biological nature, ...

Dropbox is a cloud based file storage service used by more than 100 million users. In spite of its widespread popularity, we believe that Dropbox as a platform hasn’t been analyzed extensively enough from a security standpoint. Also, the previous work on the security analysis of Dropbox has been heavily censored. Moreover, the existing Python bytecode reversing techniques are not enough for rev...

Kitchens play a role in the daily life of the family. Kitchens in rural areas of developing countries have some specific characteristics in common; lack of comfort, difficult access to water, poor structures, lack of efficient ventilation, and a lot of smoke. The studies about kitchens have been analyzing diverse aspects, like the stove, the functions, and the climate. Little, if nothing was st...
متن کاملLaser Trapping of Radioactive Atoms
Light forces acting on radioactive atoms confine them in very dense and cold samples achieving large phase space density. We describe the processes of radioactive atom production, reduction of their velocity and capture. The trapped atoms form excellent sources for the study of atomic parity non-conservation, β decay asymmetry, other weak force processes, and α decay asymmetry.
